What makes a successful bridge club ?

Last May I visited and played in a bridge club in London England  owned and operated by my friend Andrew Robson. It was a delightful experience in every way. He and his staff have magnetized some 2000 people, young and old alike, to become members of his club. Many of them play regularly,  some , less frequently but all of them are enthusiastic in their support. Sadly this is not the usual experience of many North American bridge clubs affiliated with the ACBL. This leads to my question. What are the qualities and attributes of a great bridge club?
